The leaders of the LTTE’s political Wing, who came out of their bunkers with white flags, intending to surrender, were killed by the Sri Lankan soldiers responding to an order by the Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksha to shoot them, it is reported. Leader of the Tiger political wing B. Nadesan, Head of the Tiger Peace Secretariat S. Pulithevan and some other prominent leaders who were unarmed and carrying white flags, were reportedly killed when they tried to surrender to the Army.

According to the credible internal sources of the Sri Lankan Army, Mr. Rajapaksa has contacted the General Officer in Command of the 58th
Division, Brig. Shavendra Silva on 18th May and has emphasized that the government do not intend to take anyone as Prisoners of War and therefore has ordered to ‘finish them off’ regardless of their positions in the rebel outfit.

Accordingly, in the afternoon of May 18th, Tiger political leaders, who walked towards the army positions carrying white flags along the Paranthan – Mullaithivu road were shot dead by the Sri Lankan troops. The killings took place after the victims were given a clear assurance by a certain international organization and a diplomatic mission in Colombo in consultation with high powered government officials including Gotabaya Rajapaksha, Palitha Kohona and Basil Rajapaksha.

It is further reported that the Army Commander Lt.General Sarath Fonseka was not present in the country when the incident happened, as he was on an official tour to China.
