Matara Mayor Upul Nishantha in an e-mail to Lanka News Web has said that the story carried on the website on October 5 about the Matara Mayor being ignored at the President’s rally in Matara had placed him in a difficult position and that certain details in the story were false as there was no insult in sitting in the second row.
He has said that the rally on the 4th was not an official meeting but a political meeting where ministers and parliamentarians are given first row seats and that he therefore sat right behind the President in the second row.
Editor’s note:
We published the Mayor’s clarification considering his right of reply. However, his response has further clarified our story. We are in possession of details to prove complaints made by the Matara Mayor to several organizers of the rally where he had said not offering him a front row seat was an insult to the mayoral post.
We also say with responsibility that in such a backdrop, the Mayor has sent this response due to the insistence of Minister Dullas Alahapperuma. |
