JVP parliamentarian K.D. Lalkantha said the government was hunting and suppressing social activists using terror tactics.

Lalkantha made this statement to the media after visiting Convener of the Inter University Student’s Federation, Udul Premaratne and 12 other university at the Welikada prison.
JVP Colombo District parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti accompanied Lalkantha on the visit to Welikada.

“The government that commenced suppression by first suppressing the media in the south has now started to hunt down students, trade unionists and social activists. No one can express an opinion against the government. Any one who speaks against the government are called Tigers and taken into custody. Udul Premaratne who fought to protect the rights of free education has been put in jail. This is a dangerous situation. We can no longer allow this situation to get worse. Therefore, the JVP will continue to fight to build a democratic environment where any one can express their opinions freely,” Lalkantha said.
