White van comes to journalist Dileesha’s residence at night

2009-09-30 | 2.35 PM
Several unidentified people who had arrived at Secretary of the National Forum for Journalists and Irudina journalist, Dileesha Abeysundera’s residence on Serpentine Road in Borella on Monday (28) around 11.30 p.m. had tried to forcefully open the gate to enter into the compound.

The person who had shouted out Dileesha’s name had slammed the gate to forcibly open it. Dileesha after opening the half way had said there was no such person living there and shut the door.

The arrival of unidentified people at Dileesha’s residence in white vans at a time when a protest was organized by media institutions against the suppression of the media and the reactivation of the Press Council on Tuesday (29) and when the President has invited the media to discuss issues faced by the media is seen as an attempt to instill terror and abduct another journalist.

Since journalist Poddala Jayantha was abducted and attacked at a time when the President was holding discussions with media representatives, the arrival of unidentified people in a white van to Dileesha’s residence could also be seen as yet another attempt to suppress the media.
