The President has ordered the immediate removal of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Ministry Secretary Wimaladasa Samarasinghe after he was blamed for the President’s fall at the State Literary Day held at the Presidential Secretariat.

President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge after holding an inquiry into the incident that placed the President in great difficulty has said it was due to the negligence of the Cultural Affairs Ministry Secretary.

The Cutural Affiars Secretary has now been assigned to the presidential Secretariat and the former Media Ministry Secretary A. Dissanayake has been appointed as the news Cultural Affairs Ministry Secretary.
Although Wimaladasa Samarasinghe was removed from the Ministry following the president’s fall, there have been allegations leveled against him in the past.

Cultural Affairs Minister Piyasiri Wijenayake has openly said that the Ministry Secretary’s actions had a direct impact on the failure of the State Literary Festival held in Polonnaruwa. Angered for not being allocated a slot to speak at the State Literary Festival, Minister Piyasiri Wijenayake told the media that the event in Polonnaruwa was a carnival to promote the image of one minister.
