SLFP (M) Wing Deputy Leader Upulangani Malagamuwa said that the actions of the Kurunegala District Leader of a leading political party to send several thugs to disrupt the proceedings of the Platform for Freedom held in Krurnegala on Tuesday (18) was a clear indication of the respective politician’s affiliations to the government and that he acted on state orders.
Upulangani made this comment at a press conference held at the SLFP (M) Wing headquarters on Thursday (20).
Upulangani said that although she had heard the fox howling, it was the first time she had witnessed dogs howling. She said that the respective parliamentarian |

had summoned a meeting in the morning to ask several of his supporters to disrupt the event. The politician according to Upulanagani had chosen his private secretary, a Kurunegala Municipal councilor, another candidate who contested the Kurunegala Municipal elections after earlier breaking the head of the Premadasa statue in Kurunegala and a security officer serving another provincial councilor for the task.
She said that although prior notice was given to the Police OIC to take action to prevent any disruptions from taking place at the event, he had said he was helpless as he needed to safeguard his job. Therefore, she added it was evident that the disruption plan had state sponsorship as well.
Upulangani also noted that although basic education was not a requirement to enter politics, there has to be a minimum education qualification, either, O/Levels or A/Levels, to enter into parliament.
She further observed that the respective parliamentarian hooted only at himself as the Platform for Freedom would continue with its programme regardless of any disruptions caused.
