Many acts of violence instituted against the JVP in the run up to the Uva Provincial Council elections has been reported, Deputy Executive Director, PAFFERL, Rohana Hettiarachchi said. Among the reported incidents of violence include arson attacks on JVP offices, attacks and acts of intimidation against its members.
JVP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for the Uva Province, R.M. Jayawardena said there have so far been 28 incidents of violence against the JVP.
Media Coordinator of CAFFE, Rajith Keerthi Tennekoon said there have been complaints regarding the misuse of public property in election campaigning work and unlawful propaganda activities against the UPFA. |

He said the highest number of complaints in this regard has been reported from the Moneragala District.
Badulla District Secretary R.K. Dissanayake and Moneragala District Secretary M.B. Dissanayake when inquired about the issue related to national ID cards said that while about 80-85% of the voters in both districts possessed national ID cards, about 20% of the estate community in the Badulla District did not have a national ID card.
The District Secretaries said those who do not have a national ID card should apply for a temporary ID card before July 30. So far about 35,000 application forms have been sent to the grama niladharis through the divisional secretaries.
