Army must be taught about human rights – Udalagama Commission |

The presidential commission investigating into incidents of human rights violations has proposed that members of the military be made aware of human rights.
The presidential commission headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Nissanka Udalagama to investigate into alleged incidents of human rights violations that took place in the country since August 2005 recently handed over the mission concluding report to the President.
The commission managed to inquire into 16 incidents including the killing of 17 aid workers in Muttur and the assassinations of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and parliamentarian Nadaraja Raviraj.

by the commission to extend its period in order to investigate into the other incidents, a final report prepared on the conclusion of several incidents was handed over to the President. He said that among the proposals presented by the commission in its report is the need to create awareness among military personnel about human rights.
