Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda says that a committee representing the three Buddhist nikayas has been appointed to the Justice and Law Reforms Ministry to ensure the Ministry functions according to Buddhist practices.
The Minister noted this in a press statement issued by the Ministry.
The Justice Minister was quoted two weeks ago saying that he would reintroduce the death penalty. However, issuing the press statement, the Minister has said that his first task since assuming office is the appointment of an advisory committee represented by the maha sangha to advise the Ministry on acting according to the best |

Buddhist practices.
Be that as it may, the advice of the advisory committee, which includes monks from the three nikayas, would give the Ministry with regard to the re-introduction of the death row is yet unclear. The Justice Ministry statement further stated that the committee would hold its first meeting in Kandy next month and that it would meet once every three months to discuss the advice it should give to the Ministry on enforcing law and order according to the best Buddhist practices.
