A senior CID officer told Lanka News Web that SLFP (M) Wing Leader Mangala Samaraweera was summoned to the CID to record a statement on a compliant made by UNP parliamentarian Johnston Fernando and a statement made by SLFP (M) Wing Secretary, Tiran Alles.

The senior CID officers had cordially welcomed Samaraweera, who had arrived at the CID around 10.30 a.m.

According to the CID source, Samaraweera was summoned to the CID to record a statement over a complaint made by Fernando through a senior government official of a plan to arrest him over an alleged plot to assassinate a VIP. Fernando had said
Alles informed him of this plan to arrest him.

Following a statement given by Alles to the CID that it was Samaraweera who informed Fernando of the plot, CID Director Ravi Vidyalankara summoned Samaraweera to record a statement.

The CID told us that Samaraweera was therefore summoned mainly to receive more information about the alleged conspiracy to arrest Fernando.

Samaraweera after arriving at the CID at 10 a.m. along with his supporters told the media that he was ready not only to go to the fourth floor, but also the prison in order to send this malicious government home.

It is also interesting to note Samaraweera’s change of attire. When he went to make a statement to the CID, Samaraweera was clad in the national costume.
