  Cabinet approves request to change Muslim marriage law

  Cabinet has granted permission to appoint a sub committee by the Justice Ministry to study the development of the Kathi Court and introduce reforms to the existing Muslim marriage law.

Members of the sub committee appointed by the Justice Ministry following Cabinet approval are Supreme Court Judge Saleem Marsoof; Court of Appeal Judge A.W.A. Salam; Justice Ministry Secretary, Suhada Gamlath; President’s Counsel Shibly Aziz and Faiz Mustapha; Prof. Sharya Krishna Nimal; former Judicial Services Commission Secretary, Mohamad Macky; former Chairman Kathi Board, S.M. A. Jabal; Prof. M.A. Sukri, former President, Jamiya Ul Umma Institute, Hashik Mohomad Issami Mohomad Rasbi Muski; current
  President, Jamiya Ul Umma Institute, Deshabandu Rishma Ismail; Rashmila Rasul; Rashmara Abdil Sana Gul Begam and Fazlam Ahmbin.

Co-Secretaries of the committee are Additional Secretary Justice Ministry Dilhara Amarasekera and Secretary A.K.B.B. Andara.
