  Uva election on Aug. 8th. Southern PC likely to be dissolved in August

  Elections for the Uva Provincial Council will be held on August 8, the Department of Elections announced.

The announcement came after nominations for the election closed at noon today (Jun 24).

With 574,814 voters in Badulla district and 300,642 voters in Moneragala district, the Uva province has a total of 875,456 registered voters.

The election will see 32 members elected to the council, with 21 members for Badulla and 11 Moneragala.

  The Southern provincial council is likely to be dissolved in the first week of August as the Uva PC goes to the polls, government sources said.

The polls for the Southern PC are expected to take place on October 10 or 17, the sources said.

According to the Provincial Councils Act, the term of a PC expires five years after its first sittings.

This means, the Southern PC will have it term ended on September 03.
