UNP Kurunegala District parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera has contacted a member of our editorial board from Bangkok after we published a news item saying he had traveled to Bangkok before crossing over to the government. He has denied reports of joining the government and said the story was wrong.

Jayasekera has said the UNP leader needed to establish democracy within the party before trying to establish democracy in the country and that his sole intention is to fight for party democracy even by staying as an independent MP.

He has observed that his mobile phone was switched off since he was recovering from dengue and that traveled to Bangkok for a holiday on his doctor’s advice and not to spend the millions received by the government.

He has pointed out that he was ready to give up his seat in parliament if anyone could prove he had received even a cent from the government. He has added that the air ticket to Bangkok was purchased from his personal money without anyone’s assistance.

Jayasekera has said that these rumors are being spread by a female parliamentarian and that he felt sorry for her since she was acting out of frustration.

However, he has said that no one could stop his political journey.
