Editor of the Silumina newspaper published by the Lake House, Karunadasa Sooriyarachchi has chosen a twice divorced 24 year old pretty lady to help boost the rapidly declining circulation of the newspaper, sources from Lake House said.

The Silumina newspaper that circulated 150,000 copies in 2006 when Sooriyarachchi assumed the post of editor in 2006 has now declined to 42,000 copies.

The reasons for the decline in newspaper sales have been identified as the mud slinging articles published about persons with opposing views, making it look like a 100 percent Rajapaksa newspaper and the failure to understand the requirements of the younger generation.

Sources from Lake House say that in order to address the situation, the editor has assigned a large amount of responsibilities to the 24 year old young lady to boost the newspaper’s circulation. The editor now spends most of his time behind the closed doors of his office with this young lady, discussing way to bring “youthfulness” to the newspaper.

It is learnt that no one even dares knock at the editor’s office door when the two of them are inside because the editor is of the habit of shouting at filth at anyone who disturbs him at such times.

When several people have inquired about the 24 year old young girl from the Silumina editor when they had seen both of them recently at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, the editor has said, “If it is good for Bandula Padmakumara and Mahinda Abeysundera, why is it bad for me?”
