A protest was held on the 22nd outside the Sri Lankan High Commission in Hyde Park Garden against the murder of people by underworld figures maintained by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government and the anti-democratic actions of the government. The protest was held amidst bad weather and a bus strike in London.

The protest was orgaznied by the JVP’s London branch and while many attempts were taken to sabotage it, the protest proceeded as planned.

Although the turn out of people at the protest had been affected by the bus strike, the enthusiasm and organization of the crowds that attended the protest made it a success.

The protest was carried on for about two hours.

An organizer of the protest said that it was considered as the first salvo fired against the Rajapaksa government and that a massive protest rally would be orgaznied in future together with many other organizations and movements.
