Former JVP parliamentarian Nihal Galappatti say that Julampitiya Amare, who is the main suspect in shooting at a JVP meeting in Katuwana killing two persons, was taken to courts from the President’s Carlton house in Tangalle. He has made this statement to the Lanka newspaper.

“Julampitiye Amare works with the protection of the Rajapaksas in Medamulana. He is a well known criminal in Hambantota and has on several occasions personally threatened me. Everyone in the Hambantota District knows that he has been involved in many murder, extortion and rape cases.

“Julampitiye Amare has not surrendered to the Tangalle court for killing two persons at a JVP meeting in Katuwana. Julampitiye Amare is a criminal of the highest order. He is a thug protected by the Rajapaksas. He has about 20 murder cases against him in court. There is also a warrant issued against him. He has surrendered for this old warrant.

“He surrendered to courts with the former Deputy Chairman of Tangalle. He surrendered in such a manner to evade this crime. We think he has the chance of getting bail for the old case. If the police have any self respect they should arrest him for the latest crime when he tries to walk out after getting bail. We don’t think it would happen.

“Jualampitiye Amare was taken to courthouse from Carlton. He had stayed in Carlton for a few days after the Katuwana incident.
