Prof. Ranjith Bandara it is learnt is summoning media personnel known to him and briefing them on the measures he would take when appointed as Finance Minister. The head of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI), Ranjith Bandara has in the past few days summoned several heads of state media institutions and discussed at length about the country’s financial crisis and his plan to resolve the crisis.

He has said that he was a good member of the country’s left movement and that he had even spent time in a detention camp during the 1988-89 period since he was an active member of the JVP at the time. He has observed that he was well aware of the problems faced by the poor unlike Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera.

However, he has acknowledged that Dr. Jayasundera is a smart and efficient official.

It is learnt that the President has asked Ranjtih Bandara to prepare the draft for next year’s budget proposals.

Bandara has indicated this fact to the media heads.

MP Namal Rajapaksa is currently trying get Dr. Jayasundera removed from the post of Treasury Secretary and get Bandara appointed to the post instead. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa it is learnt is also supportive of this move.
