The National Housing Development Authority is repainting the Maligawatte government flats and renovating its internal roads and drains at a massive cost of Rs. 225 million, reports said.
However, residents note that even the construction of the entire housing scheme, done during the UNP regime, did not cost that much.
It is highly questionable that the NHDA is spending such a huge amount of money to give a facelift to around 200 houses.
Once the ongoing work is complete, the Housing and Engineering Services Ministry is planning to ‘reopen’ the housing scheme.
For that purpose, a plaque is also being erected, and an opening ceremony at a further huge cost, is being planned, said the reports.
