The clash between Finance Ministry and Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera and Chairman of Board of Investments (BoI) and Power and Energy Ministry Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando has intensified resulting in the administration work of several ministries coming to a compete standstill, Lanka News Web learns.

Dr. Jayasundera during a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently has firmly said he would have to retire soon if BoI Chief, Ferdinando is not removed from the post.

However, Senior Presidential Coordinator, Gamini Senarath and two of the President’s close friends, businessman Suresh Subramaniam and Manimuttu have defended Ferdinando.

The President at the time had been faced with a dilemma over Ferdinando.

Suresh Subramaniam and Manimuttu are closely affiliated to Ferdinando and it is these two persons who are now trying to find a suitable bride for Ferdinando’s son, Asanga Ferdinando.

Manimuttu had recently met with the parents of a young Sri Lankan girl residing in Australia and said that Asanga Ferdinando’s bank account in Australia alone had close to Rs. 1,200 million. He had added that Asanga Ferdinando was also the sole heir to the assets worth millions owned by the BoI chief in Australia, Singapore and the Philippines.

Dr. Jayasundera meanwhile has prepared a detailed report on the large scale corruption carried out by Ferdinando since he assumed office as the Power and Energy Ministry Secretary in 2006. A copy of the report has been handed over to the President. The report also states that the BoI Chief’s failed attempt to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Australia.
