The induction of President’s Counsel Wijeyadasa Rajapakse as president of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka took place at Hotel Taj Samudra yesterday in the presence of a distinguished gathering.

Chief justice Shirani Bandaranayake was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem was the Guest of Honour. Attorney General Eva Wanasundara, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Dr. Karunasena Kodithuwakku, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, UNP National Organiser Daya Gamage and Dr Anoma Gamage as well as a large number of judges and lawyers were also present.

Welcoming the induction of Mr. Rajapakse as head of the Bar Association, Mr. Gamage commented to ‘Digatha News’ on the occasion that he was amazed by the huge number of legal professionals the country was having.

He said, however, it was very sad to see the sorry state of affairs of the nation, where Jungle Law was in place and there is no justice for the masses.

Blaming the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime for the prevailing lawlessness, the UNP National Organizer said he hoped that with a ‘Rajapkasa governed principles’ at the helm of Bar Association, the country would be able to see a restoration of law and order in the near future.
