UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake says there were doubts over the robbery at the National Museum since the police that have been very efficient arresting the suspects involved in the murder of two Buddhist monks at the Kotte Rajamaha Vihara have so far failed to arrest a suspect in the robbery.
Attanayake says that contradictory statements have been made by the authorities over the museum theft and it was suspicious as to why the CCTV cameras in the museum were not in operation at the time of the robbery.
A senior police officer told us that there was a suspicion on whether the robbery was carried out by members of the Presidential Security Division (PSD) on a directive by the President or a family member.
