The Attorney General’s Department is continuing to point out the serious irregularities that have taken place in granting promotions at the state-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

The AG’s Department has carried out checks on the promotions granted at the SLBC, and found that they were inconsistent with the accepted procedures.

These promotions have not been given even in accordance with a process the SLBC has intimated to the Salaries and Cadres Commission.

The AG’s Department has questioned the promotions given to many officers to director posts, although they do not have the necessary qualifications or experience.

Even the birth certificate copies of some of them are missing from their personal files.

On a previous occasion, the AG’s Department informed the SLBC chairman about these irregularities, but no remedial action has been taken so far.

The promoted officers, despite the big question marks about their qualifications and experience, are enjoying good salaries and other privileges, and some have even retired in those positions without facing any inquiry, say SLBC employees.
