  All Sri Lankans have now realized that the State Media is blatantly violating all the norms and regulations of the elections law. But along with these violations there are obvious humor provided by these organizations to the unassuming viewers.

The main newscast of ITN on the 27th December at 9 pm showed some visuals from the President’s meeting held at Minuwangoda in Gampaha District. Astonishingly, the meeting was held in bright sunshine, though there was heavy rain experienced in Minuwangoda and also in all over the District. The viewers were shown the speeches made by several speakers including the President from a glamorous stage provided by courtesy the SLPA,
  Mahinda did not do anything for the Tamil people – K. Thurairatnasingham

  TNA parliamentarian K. Thurairatnasingham said President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not do anything for the Tamil people during the four years he has so far been in office and that the decision of the TNA with regard to the Presidential election would be announced on January 4.

Thurairatnasingham said the TNA had already held discussions with the President and General Sarath Fonseka on the 10 proposals of the TNA and that General Fonseka had so far responded positively to the proposals.

The parliamentarian said the TNA planned to hold further discussions on the conditions with the two main Presidential candidates.
  Sinhalese settlements being set up in Trincomalee

  TNA parliamentarian K. Thurairatnasingham says the area where a team of Indian doctors set up a hospital in Pulmudai to treat the war displaced is being converted to a Sinhalese settlement with the help of the Sri Lanka Army.

The parliamentarian says the area belonged to Muslims and that the present act is part of the plan to set up Sinhalese settlements between the Trincomalee District and the Mullaitivu District.

  SLPA stage given for Mahinda’s rallies

  Media Ministry auditorium given free to the Alliance

  An auditorium at the Media Ministry it is learnt is being used government propaganda work without any charge. Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that money is not charged from intellectual discussions and there was no legal issue in giving the Ministry for such discussions.

He added that a different procedure was followed when allocating the Ministry auditorium for such discussions.

  No police complaint about the Major’s disappearance

  Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka says there is no police complaint about the disappearance of one of opposition common candidate General Sarath Fonseka’s supporters.

General Fonseka recently lodged a complaint with the Election Commissioner that the head of his personal security unit Major General Athula Rajapaksa had disappeared and that it was associated with election related violence.
  Sri Lanka among the 10 countries facing severe humanitarian conflicts

  Sri Lanka has been included in the list of 10 countries facing severe humanitarian conflicts prepared by the Medicines Sans Frontiers organization. The organization releases a list of 10 countries facing humanitarian conflicts annually and this year’s list was released on the 21st.

International Council Chairman of the organization Christoph Fornier issuing a statement of the report says that in relation to Sri Lanka civilians were severely affected by the war and that in some instances they lacked even basic relief to save their lives, which may have been done purposely.
  Rs. 8 billion out of state funds used for election campaign

  Executive Director of Transparency International of Sri Lanka, Attorney J.C. Weliamuna says close to Rs. 8 billion out of state funds and properties have been misused for the Presidential election campaign.

Weliamuna addressing the media along with several intellectuals on the 22nd said that a special investigations team headed by former Senior DIG Upali Seneviratne to look into the misuse of state properties and public tax funds in the Presidential election period.
  Lankan presidential candidate deported

  A Sri Lankan Tamil parliamentarian has accused India of not allowing him to attend a Tamil conference and deporting him for contesting at the forthcoming presidential polls.

Presidential Candidate MK Sivajilingam, MP, told BBC Sandeshaya that he was not allowed to enter India by the authorities at Chennai airport in Tamil Nadu.

"No reasons were given to me and I suspect this is because my decision to contest the elections," he said.

  Minister D.M. Jayaratne says that he should be appointed as the Prime Minister if the Alliance government wins the next general election. The Minister had told in an interview with the Sunday Lanka newspaper that although he was to be appointed to the post he had to give it up due to internal issues and that he should be appointed Prime Minister if the Alliance government wins the next general election.
