2009-09-04 | 5.30 AM
The event organized to unveil three monuments put up in Kilinochchi, Elephant Pass and Puthumathalan in memory of the fallen soldiers, by Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka on Friday (4) has been postponed indefinitely following a directive by the Defence Secretary.

The Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya were to unveil these monuments during their visit to the north.

A senior official in the security establishment told Lanka News Web that although no specific reason has been given for the postponement of the event, it could be a decision taken following an order issued by Defence
Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse to forces chiefs not to hold any event that would give publicity to General Sarath Fonseka.
