If any sane person reads through the present day news items, it is obvious he or she will soon end up as an insane. Criminals are appointed as Ambassadors…….. Senior police officer supports his son to abduct a fellow student and assault him mercilessly at his own residence with the support of his wife, who sat on the face of the student while he being assaulted and some other police officers and as the case goes by the Police Chief transfers some of the police officers involved in abduction and assault without taking anyone into custody…….. Several suspects taken in for questioning get killed by police fire directed at them on “self-defense” as they tried to shoot at the police officers while being handcuffed………. Students are arrested and remanded for writing anti-government slogans on walls criticizing a |

“King”, who is not in existence in the country………. Police officers, who are supposed to be custodians of law and order take the law unto themselves and go on killing sprees………… Colombo Crimes Division go to Mannar and take a vehicle into custody for carrying twenty odd claymore mines and “release” the driver of the vehicle and drives down the vehicle to Colombo with all the explosives intact without diffusing them and the Senior Deputy Inspector General of the Northern Province denies the story…………. These are some of the astonishing and somewhat humorous news reports being reported from various places of the country.
Nawalage Banat Cooray is nominated to be the next Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Philippines. It is common knowledge that this person has several charges against him in the Courts of Law and some of them are of criminal nature including murder. Does this mean that the future Ambassadors of Sri Lanka should be criminals or persons having criminal charges against them? It is no wonder that the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, which in the past boasted of having some of the best officers in the country is slowly being sidelined and ignored by the Majesty’s Government and well over 60% of the Diplomatic postings have been filled with stooges, henchmen and relatives, who have no diplomatic experience whatsoever. If sanity prevails in the country’s governance, most qualified and efficient diplomats should be appointed to key diplomatic positions to counter the adverse publicity earned by Sri Lanka in the post-war scenario. Instead of doing that they call back all the carrier diplomats and appoint criminals to do that job. So, if anyone aspiring to be a diplomat, kill a few fellow citizens……… This is the advice from Lanka News Web.
It is obvious that the Sri Lankan regime under His Majesty the King Mahinda Rajapakse (as he is referred to by his goons) is fast catching up with the regimes such as Myanmar, North Korea, China, Russia, Iran and many others who have no freedom to dissent or to express dissenting views. The arrest of University students belonging to the Inter University Students Union for engaging in spreading “Anti-President” propaganda is the latest of so many dictatorial activities perpetrated by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL). There is no freedom of speech, writing or expression of dissenting views, which are guaranteed rights of citizens by the very constitution of the country.
The dictatorship is spreading its ugly tentacles to all arenas of the very livelihood of the citizenry of Sri Lanka through the defense establishment headed by the brother of the Majesty. Police and armed forces are given the freehand to do whatever they want and this has created mayhem in the country as they have taken the law unto themselves. Unarmed and innocent ordinary citizens have no rights in the society. The arrogance emanated from post-war jubilation could be seen everywhere. More and more checkpoints are mushrooming and the Government newspapers are publishing photographs of suspected “suicide bombers” who are supposed to be in the city to kill themselves. By doing so, the Government creates a fear psychosis within the society, which will eventually settle to live within a militarized regime under so much stress. But who cares? The Kingdom under the Majesty’s rule keep going while bagging all the election held on scattered basis. |
