Transport Minister Dullas discards Presidential request

2009-08-12 | 11.45 AM

Sources from Temple Trees said that although the President had ordered Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma to prepare a report with regard to a project proposal forwarded by the Romanian government to repair broken down train carriages, Alahapperuma has not prepared the relevant report. The Presidential order was made at the July 3 Cabinet meeting and the report was to be prepared and presented within 30 days.

Alahapperuma had not paid attention to the same request when the matter was taken up for discussion on an earlier occasion in March this year. The President had even formed a Cabinet sub committee comprising Alahapperuma, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena and Nimal Siripala de Silva to study the proposal made by the

Romanian government and to prepare a report on it. However, Alahapperuma had not convened at least one meeting of this committee.

Meanwhile, the President has also received reports that Alahapperuma was not interested in the proposal presented by the Romanian government and opted instead to make arrangements to import 100 train carriages of inferior quality from China due to an alleged commission involved in the deal.
