In order to disrupt the protest planned against the erroneous term test papers on Thursday (6), the Cinnamon Gardens Police on Wednesday (5) arrested Convene, Inter University Students Federation (IUSF), Udul Premaratne for allegedly pasting posters of the protest. The Fort Magistrate ordered him to be held in remand prison till August 12.

The IUSF organized a massive protest opposite the Fort railway station and a campaign to receive 1,000,000 signatures for a petition.

Several senior members of IUSF told Lanka News Web that Premaratne’s arrest was the height in the campaign carried out by the police to suppress any protest against
the controversial term test papers. The work of two police constables attached to the Kurunegala police was suspended when some one sprayed graffiti on a wall criticizing the President for the errors in the test papers.

Also, two members of the Socialist Students Union were arrested in Athurugiriya and Kaduruwela for pasting posters against the critical of the term test controversy.

The youth arrested in Athurugiriya was released after interrogation while the other arrested in Kduruwela was released on a Rs. 50,000 personal bail.
