Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse who has been critical of the US, UN and the Western countries and even challenged their intentions, has now sought help from the US to receive aid.
In an interview with BBC, Gotabhaya had said that Sri Lanka was in need of financial aid from the international community. Apart from the US, the Defence Secretary has also requested funds from the UN and Japan.
A US citizen, Gotabhaya, became critical of Western nations after assuming the post of Defence Secretary in his brother, Mahinda Rajapkase’s government. During the war, he openly challenged most of the Western nations. |

However, even before the lapse of three months since the end of the war, the Defence Secretary has requested for more funding from the US, claiming the funds received by the IMF were inadequate.
The Defence Secretary had also said the government had to incur heavy expenditure to provide necessary facilities to the IDPs in the displaced camps. |
